Alan Manzo Earns Win at Chuck Davey Invite

Maddie Lloyd was named the team's Boxer of the Week.
DETROIT, Mich. – Senior Alan Manzo claimed a victory over his service academy counterpart last night (Oct. 29), as five members of the Air Force boxing team competed against Army West Point and Navy at the annual Chuck Davey Invitational in Detroit.
Manzo claimed the victory for Air Force at 156 pounds after claiming a split decision win over Denver Jackson of Army West Point. All three of the Falcons' decisions were split, as classmate Maddie Lloyd and sophomore Victor Benitez suffered 2-1 losses to Navy's Jasmine Brown (140 pounds) and Army West Point's Eddie Crutchfield (heavyweight), respectively. Despite the narrow loss, Lloyd earned the team's Boxer of the Week award.
Two other Falcons also competed at the Detroit Athletic Club on Friday, but recorded referee-stopped, 165-pound losses to boxers from Navy. Junior Alan Long dropped his contest to Alex Smith in the first bout at that weight class, while sophomore Keillan Laurenceau followed with a loss to Kenny Wilkerson.
After splitting their Chuck Davey Invitational card at 1-1, a larger contingent of boxers from Air Force and Army West Point will meet up next week in the outfield of Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, for their annual showdown between the two programs. This year's bouts will be contested during the Lockheed Martin Commanders' Classic, presented by USAA, weekend.
