THE STAGE IS SET
Air Force is making its sixth-straight WAC Tournament berth, seventh total appearance since joining the WAC in 2013. The Falcons have earned the three-seed, matching with sixth-seeded UTRGV in match two of the first round. The squads will meet Wednesday, November 10, at GCU Stadium in Phoenix, Arizona. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. MT.
THE SERIES AGAINST UTRGV
Air Force and UTRGV will be meeting for the ninth time in the all-time series; the Falcons hold a 5-2-1 series advantage. Air Force won the regular-season meeting, 2-1, in a Friday evening contest (Oct. 8), at Cadet Soccer Stadium, USAFA. WAC Offensive Player of the Year Tristan Trager scored both strikes against the Vaqueros.
The last time these teams met in the WAC Tournament was last season, where the sixth-seeded Falcons secured their second-straight WAC Tournament upset, outscoring the second-seeded Vaqueros, 1-0, in the semifinals at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
UP NEXT
The winner of match two will take on second-seed Seattle U in the semifinals on Friday, November 12. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. MT. The Redhawks boast regular season wins over both UTRGV (3-2) and Air Force (2-1).
AIR FORCE WAC POST-SEASON HONORS
Six Falcons earned WAC post-season honors, highlighted by Tristan Trager's Offensive Player of the Year nod. Trager, London Aghedo and Jared Dove earned first-team All-WAC honors while Lathan Spadafora and Kainoa Likewise earned second-team honors. Kobey Stoup represented AF on the WAC All-Freshman team.
IN THE SEASON FINALE
Air Force rallied from an early deficit to knock off the 17th-ranked Grand Canyon, 2-1, in the regular-season finale, Saturday afternoon (Nov. 6), at Cadet Soccer Stadium. The Falcons gave a proper farewell to six seniors who led the way in the upset of the WAC's regular-season champions. Air Force's successful defense of the home pitch solidified a 6-0 home-defense record against WAC opponents this season.
