AF swam in six more events in the final tune-up before WAC Championships
DENVER, Colo. – The Air Force Academy men's swimming team wrapped up action at the First Chance Meet Saturday afternoon, Feb. 13, at the El Pomar Natatorium on the campus of the University of Denver. No team scores were kept, as the First Chance Meet serves as one of the final tune-ups before the Western Athletic Conference Championships.
The Falcons competed in six events on the day, the 100 free, 200 back, 200 breast, 100 fly, and 500 free and 200 IM.
In the 100 free, junior Isaac Gwin paced the field with a 43.77, followed closely by sophomore Wen Zhang, with a 43.88. Sophomore Gabriel Bartolomei was the only Falcon to swim the 200 back, and he clocked in with a 1:47.49.
Sophomore Ben DuFauchard led AF in the 200 breast, touching in with a season-best 2:04.08. In the 100 fly, Gwin once again led the field with a 48.86. Then in the 500 free, Zhang touched in first with a 4:34.20. Finally, in the 200 IM, junior Adam Grimm moved up the all-time AF list with a blazing 1:49.06. That time is good enough for eighth-fastest in Academy history.
The next time the Falcons hit the pool will be for the WAC Championships, which will be held Feb. 24-27, with the swimming portion in Las Vegas, Nev. and the diving in Flagstaff, Ariz. AF will be looking for back-to-back titles after winning in historic fashion in 2020.
