Women's Swimming Complete Day One of the MW Championships

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Air Force Academy women's swimming team completed day one of the 2021 Mountain West Conference Championships Wednesday evening, Feb. 17, at UNLV's Buchanan Natatorium. The Falcons competed in the 200-medley relay and 800-free relay on day one.

The biggest highlight of the night came in the 800 free relay, where freshman Kara Gavin swam the opening leg, and finished with a 1:51.49 to set the tenth-fastest 200 free time in program history. As a team the squad of Gavin, freshman Kendra Joachim, and juniors Caroline Wittich and Emily Bardak finished seventh with a 7:34.58. It was the first time the Falcons have competed in the 800 free relay this season.

In the 200 medley, the squad of senior Kylie Stronko, and sophomores Mason Brown, Allana Clarke, and Sefilina Maile initially finished fourth, however they were subsequently disqualified after an early transfer.

Day two of the MW Championships will continue tomorrow with four more swimming events and the first diving event. Action for both will begin at noon MT.
