
Maile Has Podium Finish on Day Two of the MW Championships

The sophomore took seventh in the 50 freestyle
LAS VEGAS, Nev./USAFA, Colo. – The Air Force Academy women's swimming and diving team ramped up the action on day two of the 2021 Mountain West Swimming Championships Thursday, Feb. 18, at UNLV's Buchanan Natatorium and the Cadet Natatorium. The Falcons participated in four swimming events at UNLV, and the divers competed in the 1-meter at home.
Air Force was led by a podium finish in the 50 free from sophomore Sefilina Maile, who placed seventh in the finals with a time of 23.20. Her prelim time of 23.16 improved her third-best program time by .01 seconds.
Junior Lia Campbell qualified for the C-Final of the 50 free, and she took fourth there for a 20th place overall finish. Her prelim time of 23.82 was a season-best.
In the 500 freestyle, freshman Kendra Joachim was AF's top finisher as she qualified for the C-Final with a prelim time of 5:02.55. In the C-Final, Joachim finished seventh to place 23rd overall.
Air Force's top placer in the 200 IM was freshman Corinne Yorkman, who also took 23rd overall after taking seventh in the C-Final. Her prelim time of 2:06.72 was a season-best by almost three seconds.
In the lone relay of the day, the 400 medley, AF finished fifth overall with a time of 3:42.87, a new season-best. The squad consisted of senior Kylie Stronko, and sophomores Mason Brown, Allana Clarke and Maile.
Meanwhile at the Academy, the divers competed in the 1-meter event in the afternoon inside the Cadet Natatorium. The Falcons had three qualify for the consolations, and a trio of freshmen, Grace Treanor, Kinzie Etzelmiller, and Megan DuMond, finished fourth, sixth, and eighth, respectively, to take 12th, 14th, and 16th overall.
Day three of the 2021 MW Championships continues tomorrow, Feb. 19, with six more swimming events and the 3-meter dive. Action in both locations is set to begin at noon MT.
