
Falcons With Three More Podium Finishes on Day Three of the MW Championships

AF got top-eight finishes from Kylie Stronko, Sefilina Maile, and Mason Brown
LAS VEGAS, Nev./USAFA, Colo. – The Air Force Academy women's swimming and diving team earned three more podium finishes on day three of the 2021 Mountain West Swimming Championships Friday, Feb. 19, at UNLV's Buchanan Natatorium and the Cadet Natatorium. The Falcons participated in six swimming events at UNLV, while the divers competed in the 3-meter at home.
The top-eight finishes came from senior Kylie Stronko in the 100 back, sophomore Sefilina Maile in the 200 free, and sophomore Mason Brown in the 100 breast.
Stronko had the highest finish of the three, taking fifth place in the final with a time of 55.30. Her prelim time was the fourth-best with a 54.95. It was her first time earning all-conference in the 100 back, and second time overall after finishing top-eight in the 200 back in 2019.
Maile earned her second all-conference finish of the week, as she touched in sixth place in the 200 free with a finals time of 1:50.38. Her prelim time was 1:50.01, which is the sixth-fastest time in program history. Maile is the first Falcon to earn multiple top-eight finishes at a single MW Championships since Genevieve Miller won three All-MW honors in 2017.
Brown took eighth in the 100 breast with a finals time of 1:03.10. She clocked in the prelim in 1:02.87, which is the fourth-best in Academy history.
Elsewhere on the day, AF scored a multitude of team points in the other events. In the 100 fly, sophomore Allana Clarke won the consolation final to place ninth overall. Her finals time was 55.50, which is tied for fifth-quickest in program history. In that same event, freshman Shayla Markle placed 13th and junior Emily Bardak took 18th.
In the 400 IM, freshman Corinne Yorkman was AF's top placer, taking 19th overall. Right behind her was freshman Kara Gavin in 20th, while junior Ally Armbruster took 23rd. After Brown in the 100 breast, sophomore Kimmy Woolfenden took 12th overall, while junior Evelyn Johnson placed 14th and junior Caroline Wittich took 22nd. Finally, in the 100 back, sophomore Shea Burcham and senior Lexie DuChene tied for 14th overall, while Clarke took 18th.
On the diving board, AF once again had three qualify for the consolation finals, this time in the 3-meter. There, the trio of freshman Kinzie Etzelmiller, junior Curi von Schlag, and freshman Grace Treanor took first, fifth, and seventh, to finish ninth, 13th, and 15th overall.
The final event contested was the 200 free relay. The squad of Maile, junior Lia Campbell, Burcham, and DuChene clocked in with a season-best 1:34.27 to place seventh.
The 2021 MW Championships concludes tomorrow, Feb. 20, with the final six swimming events, as well as the platform dive. Action in both locations is set to begin at noon MT.
