Air Force travels to Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate

This Week: Air Force travels to Palm Desert, Calif., for the 13th annual Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate, presented by Callaway Golf, Feb. 19-21, at the Classic Club (par 72, 7,322 yards). Live stats will be available at www.golfstat.com.
The Format: Each day will be a double-tee start off of holes 1 and 10 starting at 7 a.m. P.T.
The Lineup: Luke Trujillo will play in the No. 1 spot this week while Colter Baca will play No. 2, Kyle Spencer (No. 3), Isaac Layne (No. 4), Aaron Kuznik (No. 5) and Max Heupel will compete as an individual.
 
Competing Teams: Air Force, Wyoming, Boise State, CSU Northridge, Charlotte, Colorado, Colorado State, Florida Atlantic, Fresno State, Georgia Tech, Gonzaga, Kansas, Northern Colorado, Oregon, San Diego, Seattle, South Dakota State, Southern Utah, UCLA, UC Riverside, UTEP.
 
Last Season in the Desert: Auburn won the 2020 Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate with a three-round total of 842 (-22). Charlotte was second (-4), Denver was third (-3), Colorado State fourth (E), and Oregon fifth (+2). Wyoming's Tyler Severin was the individual champion with a nine-under 207.
Last Time in Palm Desert: Air Force has not competed in the tournament in Palm Desert, Calif., since 2011 when the Falcons placed 20th with three-round score of 951.
Last Week: – Junior Luke Trujillo shot a 65 (-7) in the final round of the Pizza Hut Pat Hicks Invitational, Feb. 8, at the Sunbrook Golf Club in St. George, Utah. Air Force placed 10th in the tournament with a 54-hole total of 882 (+18). Utah won the tournament with an 823 (-41). Utah Valley was second at 828 (-26) and Southern Utah was third at 841 (-21). After an opening round 298, the Falcons shot a 291 and 293 over the final 36 holes. Trujillo led the Falcons and was tied for 13th overall with a 213 (-3) over 54 holes. Senior Kyle Spencer matched his career high in the first round (69) and finished the three-day tournament with a 222. Junior Colter Baca also finished at 222, posting a consistent outing of 74-72-76. Sophomore Isaac Layne came in at 231 and junior Jonathan Farmer shot a 242. Three Falcons competed as individuals as freshman Aaron Kuznik shot 229, freshman Max Heupel shot 239 and sophomore Patrick Erwin shot 242.
Trujillo's Record Round: Junior Luke Trujillo shot a 65 (-7) in the final round of the Pizza Hut Pat Hicks Invitational, , Feb. 8, at the Sunbrook Golf Club in St. George, Utah. The 65 ties as the second best round in school history, one off the school record 64 shot by Tom Whitney in 2009. Trujillo is just the sixth Falcon since 1999 to shoot 65 and the first since Joseph Crisostomo at the 2019 Kaanapali Classic. The 65 tied as the best round by any player in the Pat Hicks Invitational.
The Season: The Falcons will compete in five regular-season tournaments this season. Air Force opened the season at the Pizza Hut Pat Hicks Invitational, Feb. 6-8. After the Wyoming Desert Collegiate, Feb. 19-21, the Falcons will compete in the Lamkin Classic, March 8-10, the Wyoming Cowboy Classic, April 5-6, the BYU Cougar Classic, April 23-24 and the Mountain West Championships, April 30-May 1.
