Falcons Complete 3-0 Weekend With 6-1 Win Over Seward County

Air Force women's tennis (5-1) defeated Seward County Community College 6-1 Sunday in Midland, Texas. The Falcons completed a 3-0 weekend with the win.

The Falcons opened with a sweep at doubles for the first point. Meredith Jones and Ksenia Vasilyev won at No. 1 doubles over Justin Lespes and Chiara Mattedo 6-2. Alex Kuo and Isabella Flodin won at No. 2 over Lucia Popluharaova and Marcia Garcia 7-6 (3). Sydney Fitch and Hailey Stelse won at No. 3 over Lorena Torrico and Saskia Vogelzang 6-2.

In singles, the Falcons won five of six. Four of the five wins came in straight sets.

Jones fell at No. 1 to Lespes 6-1, 5-7, 10-5. At No. 2, Kuo defeated Mattedo 6-4, 6-2. At No. 3, Fitch defeated Popluharaova 6-4, 6-3.

Hailey Stelse won at No. 4 over Garcia 6-0, 6-1. Mebeli Becerra won at No. 5 over Torrico 6-3, 6-0. Vasilyev won at No. 6 over Vogelzang 7-5, 5-7, 10-8.

"This was a great weekend for us to get a bunch of matches in some adverse conditions outside with the elements," head coach Kim Gidley said. "I was really proud of how the team responded and stepped up their games."

Air Force returns to action Friday, Feb. 26 hosting Colorado.
