"I was pleased with the results today," head coach Doug Hill said. "Overall there were good individual efforts and I was happy to get everyone that traveled on the pitch, but I know the team can play better. We are going to work on keeping the ball and improving on certain aspects everyday up until our match next weekend. We have a lot we can improve on."
The Falcons dominated the possessions, more than doubling the Trailblazer shot attempts (10-4) and quadrupling their shots on goal (8-2). Air Force's staunch defense, anchored by Jared Dove who played all 90 minutes, were effective at denying Dixie State's offense at the midfield.
Air Force junior Michael Neacsu was the first to score high center in the 10th minute via touches from London Aghedo and Quinn Matulis.
Falcon defender Aghedo was the second to light the scoreboard as he plugged the ball high left from a well-placed 30-yard ball by Matulis on a set piece in the 34th minute.
Thaddaeus Dewing scored his first collegiate goal in full stride as the Air Force defense stole the ball from the Trailblazer's side of the pitch, sending Daniel in full sprint down center field before feeding Dewing the assist for a goal within the box in the 44th minute.
Air Force's final goal was scored by Jacob Angeletti via a well-placed ball from Bussey from the far corner with just over four minutes remaining in the match.
Junior keeper Kainoa Likewise recorded a save in 90 minutes of action.
Next weekend, Air Force takes a break from WAC action due to a postponement within the San Jose State program. The Falcons will instead host the Colorado School of Mines in exhibition play.
