Mahala Norris (first-team) and Greg Skage (second-team) named All-Americans by USTFCCCA.
NEW ORLEANS – Highlighted by a first-team award from senior Mahala Norris, two members of the Air Force track and field team earned All-America honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association, as the USTFCCCA announced its Division I list of All-Americans.
Athletes who finished in the top-eight of the individual events and relays at last weekend's NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships claimed First-Team All-America honors from the USTFCCCA, while those who placed ninth through 16th, individually or on a relay, earned Second-Team All-America status. The remaining athletes were given honorable mention status.
Norris claimed First-Team All-America status in the 5000-meter run, following a fourth-place performance on Friday, March 12. Clocking a career-best time of 19:51.73 – the third-fastest time in Academy history, Norris finished 10 spots above her entry seed and earned the program's best indoor finish in a running event since 2010. She is the fifth Falcon in the last 11 years to earn All-America honors at 5000 meters.
Classmate Greg Skage captured the program's 10th All-America accolade in the indoor pole vault, as he earned Second-Team status following a 12th-place finish in the event finals on Saturday, March 13. Clearing 17'4½" – his third-highest clearance of the year, Skage became the sixth different Air Force pole vaulter to claim All-America honors in that event at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
In addition, senior pole vaulter Mitch Lipe was named honorable mention after qualifying to nationals.
