
Quartet Wraps Up Opening Day of Aztec Multis

Three freshmen and one junior made their collegiate debuts in the multis today.
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Four members of the Air Force track and field team kicked off the 42nd-annual Aztec Invitational – and made their outdoor debuts in the combined events – this afternoon (March 25), during the opening day of competition for the decathlon and heptathlon at San Diego State.
With 3445 points, Braeden Holcombe is in second after the opening day of his first collegiate decathlon. Backed by the top marks in two events, the freshman climbed up the leaderboard during the first four events, moving from fifth to second as the day progressed. Holcombe tallied the day's top marks in the shot put (37'8") and high jump (6'3¼"), while clocking the second-fastest time in the 400-meter dash (51.65). He added a long jump distance of 21'2½" and a 100-meter time of 11.66 to his overall total.
Classmate Brian Hubbard is in fifth after five events, as he amassed 3102 points in his collegiate decathlon debut. Hubbard recorded the second-fastest time of the meet in the 100-meter dash (11.26) and added debut marks in the long jump (21'2½"), shot put (34'2"), high jump (5'5¾") and 400-meter dash (55.47).
On the women's side, fellow freshman Katie Thompson compiled 2688 points during the first four events of the heptathlon and sits in fourth after the first day of her outdoor debut in the multi's. Thompson placed among the top half of the field in the 200-meter dash (26.11) and 100-meter hurdles (14.88), while also adding a distance of 31'2¾" in the shot put and a clearance of 4'8¼" in the high jump.
Junior Kendra Middleton also made her heptathlon debut this afternoon, tallying 1568 points after competing in three of the four events – high jump (4'11¾"), shot put (27'4") and 200-meter dash (29.70).
The Air Force quartet wraps up action at the Aztrack Sports Deck tomorrow (March 25) with the final five events of the decathlon (9:00 a.m. start) and the last three events of the heptathlon (10:00 a.m. start).
