AF completed the season sweep of the Cowgirls
LARAMIE, Wyo. – The Air Force Academy women's soccer team blanked Wyoming, 1-0, Sunday afternoon, March 28, at the Madrid Sports Complex. The Falcons completed the season sweep over the Cowgirls, and now own a five-game unbeaten streak over their rivals from the north, including three-straight wins.
The game winner came off the foot of freshman Jordi Ives in the eighth minute. It was the first goal of her AF career. She was assisted by sophomore Faith Lee. In total, the offense rattled off six shots, with four of them on net. On defense, freshman Cammi Bych, in her second career start, registered the shutout with seven saves. In total, six Falcons played all 90 minutes of the match.
Wyoming started off on the attack, getting a corner and shot on net in the first five minutes. AF countered with the goal in the eighth minute after Lee fed Ives at the top of the box, and Ives buried the goal in the top corner for the 1-0 lead.
The Falcons and Cowgirls traded shots down the stretch of the first half, bit nothing found twine, leading to the 1-0 halftime score.
Wyoming came out firing in the second half, getting a pair of shots on net in the first seven minutes, but Bych held strong. Both defenses then locked it down, with neither team getting a decent look until the 74th minute, as Bych registered another save. Over the last 15 minutes, the Falcons held Wyoming without an attempt on net to lock down the 1-0 victory.
AF will return to the pitch next Friday, April 2, for penultimate home match against Mountain Division leader New Mexico. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. MT.
