
Air Force travels to Lamkin Classic in San Diego

This Week: Air Force travels to the 14th annual Lamkin San Diego Classic, March 8-10, at the San Diego Country Club, in Chula Vista, Calif. The par 72 course plays over 7,033 yards. Live scoring will be available at GolfStat.com.
The Lineup: Kyle Spencer will play in the No. 1 spot at the Lamkin Classic. Luke Trujillo will be No. 2, followed by Colter Baca, Isaac Layne and Jonathan Farmer.
The Format: Teams will play 18 holes on each of the three days. Tee times for the 54-hole tournament will begin at 7:10 am PT each day with foursomes going off of both No. 1 and No. 10.
About the Lamkin: The first season of the Lamkin was in 2008 and the tournament has featured some of the nation's top teams. Last season's tournament featured three teams ranked in the top 11 in the nation. Past team winners include Tennessee, Arizona State, Oklahoma State (tournament record -44 in 2018), Mississippi, Texas, USC and Washington. Past individual champions include current PGA players Beau Hossler, Xander Schauffele and Jon Rahm.
Competing Teams: The 20-team field includes three top 25 teams, seven teams from the Mountain West, four from the Pact 12 and one each from the Big 12 and Big 10. Air Force is joined in the tournament by BYU, Cal Poly, Colorado, Colorado State, Denver, Kansas (No. 25), Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico (No. 24), Northern Illinois, San Diego, San Diego State (No. 20), San Jose State, St. Mary's, UC Davis, UCLA, USC, Washington and Wyoming.
Last Season at the Lamkin: Tennessee won the tournament with an 856 (-8) at the 2020 Lamkin Classic, at the San Diego Country Club in Chula Vista, Calif. Third-ranked Arizona State tied with 28th-ranked San Diego State for second place (860) and fifth-ranked Texas A&M was fourth at 861. Air Force finished in 19th place with a three-round score of 910. Joseph Crisostomo fired an even-par 72 in the final round and was the top Falcon in the 54-hole tournament with a 223 (+7). Air Force shot its best round on the final day with a 299. Along with Crisostomo's 72, Isaac Layne and Jonathan Farmer shot 75 while Anson Kuznik shot 77 and Josh Wu shot 79. For the two-day, 54-hole tournament, Layne shot 229, Wu and Kuznik tied at 231 and Farmer came in at 236.
Last Week: Senior Kyle Spencer led the Air Force golf team in the final round of the Wyoming Desert Classic, Feb. 21, at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif. Spencer shot a final round 75 and finished the 54-hole tournament at 222 (+6). In a tournament featuring several of the nation's top teams, Georgia Tech won with a team score of 848 (-16). Charlotte was second (855), followed by San Diego (858), Oregon and Boise State (862). Air Force placed 18th at 919. Air Force junior Luke Trujillo and sophomore Isaac Layne each shot 231 while Colter Baca shot 239 and Aaron Kuznik shot 240. Freshman Max Heupel, competing as an individual, shot 239.
Season Stats: Senior team captain Kyle Spencer and junior Luke Trujillo are tied for the team's best stroke average of 74.00 this season. Spencer matched his career best 69 twice this season, once in each tournament. Trujillo shot a career best 65 at the Pizza Hut Pat Hicks Invitational, tied as the second best round in school history, one off the school record 64 shot by Tom Whitney in 2009. Junior Colter Baca is third on the team (76.83).

Air Force opened the season at the Pizza Hut Pat Hicks Invitational, Feb. 6-8, and then played in the Wyoming Desert Collegiate, Feb. 19-21.
