PHOENIX - A Grand Canyon strike early in the second half lifted the Lopes to a 1-0 win against Air Force, Saturday evening at GCU Stadium. The Falcons drop to 1-2-1 in WAC action while GCU remains undefeated at 3-0.
Air Force and GCU played a scoreless first half, but the Lopes held the advantage in shots, 7-2. Air Force goalie Kainoa Likewise was good for two first half saves, walling off an aggressive GCU offense. He finished the match with three saves to his credit.
The eventual game-winner was scored unassisted by Alejandro Fernandez-Alcaide late in the 48th minute. Air Force attempted to rally the offense, firing off three shots in the second half highlighted by a shot on goal from Thaddaeus Dewing, successfully defended by George Tasouris. GCU put up seven second-half shots, 14 total on the match.
London Aghedo, Max Sole and Jared Dove anchored the Air Force defense with 90 minutes of action apiece.
Next up, the Falcons return to the Academy to host Seattle U on Saturday, March 13. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. MT.
