
Men's Soccer to Host Seattle U in Tuesday Match

GAME 05: AIR FORCE (1-2-1) vs. SEATTLE U (3-2-1)
The Falcons return to the Academy to host Seattle U on Saturday, March 16. Kickoff is slated for 12 p.m. MT. Due to heavy snow over the weekend; the match originally scheduled for Saturday has been moved to Tuesday at Cadet Lacrosse Stadium (lacrosse practice field).
THE SERIES
Air Force will be taking on Seattle U in the 14th all-time meeting between the programs; the Falcons lead the series 6-5-2. Air Force is 3-1-1 in the last five meetings.
LAST TIME THEY MET
Air Force was in hot pursuit of Seattle U all night but was unable to close the distance at the end of regulation, falling 2-1, to the Western Athletic Conference's top team at Championship Field.
Air Force was outshot by a WAC opponent for the first time that season as the Red Hawks tallied 24 shots to the Falcons' 11
The first strike of the match came late in the first half as two-touch assist from Declan McGlynn and Hal Udertiz helped Noe Meza score a goal in the 44th minute, giving the Red Hawks a one-goal advantage at the half.
The Red Hawks outshot Air Force, 12-4, in the first half-- a feat that no other WAC team had achieved against the Falcons to that point in the season.
The situation was further complicated in the second hald as Seattle took a two-nil lead with a strike in the 66th minute where Burke Fahling sent a cross to Udertiz who headed the ball into Kainoa Likewise's reach, but the keeper for Air Force was unable to stop the score.
Four minutes later, a foul in the Red Hawk's box awarded the Falcons a penalty kick. Quinn Matulis was sent forth to take the shot which he converted to bring Air Force within one in the 69th minute. Matulis was perfect in penalty kicks at that point of the season (2-2).
In the 78th minute, a foul in the Air Force box set the stage for McGlynn who stepped up to take a penalty kick with the hopes of adding an insurance goal against Likewise. The 2018 WAC Freshman of the Year who led SU in goals, shot low-right but Likewise beat him to the target, making the save and keeping the Falcons in the match. Likewise recorded a career-best 10 saves against the trigger-happy Red Hawks.
Air Force continued to put pressure on the Red Hawk defense but was unable to find the equalizer before the 90-minute expiration.
LAST TIME OUT
A Grand Canyon strike early in the second half lifted the Lopes to a 1-0 win against Air Force, Saturday evening at GCU Stadium.
Air Force and GCU played a scoreless first half, but the Lopes held the advantage in shots, 7-2. Air Force goalie Kainoa Likewise was good for two first half saves, walling off an aggressive GCU offense. He finished the match with three saves to his credit.
The eventual game-winner was scored unassisted by Alejandro Fernandez-Alcaide late in the 48th minute. Air Force attempted to rally the offense, firing off three shots in the second half highlighted by a shot on goal from Thaddaeus Dewing, successfully defended by George Tasouris. GCU put up seven second-half shots, 14 total on the match.
London Aghedo, Max Sole and Jared Dove anchored the Air Force defense with 90 minutes of action apiece.
