Layne leads Falcons on day one in San Diego

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Sophomore Isaac Layne shot a season-best 72 to lead the Air Force golf team on the opening day of the Lamkin Classic, Monday, March 8, at the San Diego Country Club in Chula Vista, Calif.
Layne's 72 is the second best of his career and has him tied for 27th place in the tournament. He birdied his first two holes and, after an eagle on the par 5 eighth hole, shot 32 on the front. He made five birdies in the round. Junior Luke Trujillo came in at 78 while Colter Baca and Jonathan Farmer shot 79 and Kyle Spencer shot 83.
Air Force shot a 308 (+20) for 17th place, ahead of Northern Illinois, San Jose State and Nebraska and just two strokes behind Wyoming. San Diego leads the tournament with a 283 (-5) while Southern California is second, Nevada is third and UCLA and Colorado are tied for fourth.
The second round begins at 8 am PT on Tuesday, March 9.
