Four of the 20-fastest 5000-meter times in Academy history were recorded tonight.
STANFORD, Calif. – Air Force made five improvements to the program's extended record book tonight (April 2), as six members of the Falcons' distance squad raced under the lights of Cobb Track during the opening night of action at the 42nd Stanford Invitational in California.
Less than one second separated a quartet of Falcons in their collegiate debut of the outdoor 5000-meter run, as they secured spots 12-15 in the 25-runner field. With a time of 14:02.28, Sean Maison knocked nearly five seconds off the program's five-year-old Freshman Class Record and accounted the 11th-fastest time in Academy history, as he placed within the top half of the field (12th). His brother, Scott Maison, finished right on his heels with a time of 14:02.93 – the program's 12th-fastest time, while sophomore Ryan Johnson posted a time of 14:03.39 to debut in 13th on the Academy's all-time standings with a 14th-place finish. Freshman Luke Combs rounded out the group of outdoor-newcomers, as he posted a time of 14:04.25 to finish 15th in the race and debut in 15th on the all-time standings.
Competing in his first 10,000-meter run – and first outdoor race since 2018, senior Alec Schrank clocked a time of 29:53.50 to finish 10th in the meet and debut in 17th on the program's all-time standings. Sophomore Aidan Boyle also made his collegiate outdoor debut tonight, posting a sixth-place time of 9:23.20 in the 3000-meter steeplechase.
While the majority of the team opens competition at the Baylor Invitational tomorrow (April 3) in Waco, four Falcons wrap up action at the Stanford Invitational with runners in the two 1500-meter events.
