Four Falcons combined for two PRs and a pair of event debuts on Thursday night.
DES MOINES, Iowa – Backed by two distance debuts and a pair of career-best marks, four members of the Air Force track and field team opened competition at the 111th Drake Relays this evening (April 22), under the lights of Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.
Freshman Rebecca Wusinich had a strong showing on the Blue Oval during her first 5000-meter run at the collegiate level, as posted a time of 17:05.77 to finish third in the 14-runner event. Moving up from the 1500-meter distance, the freshman debuted in 16th on the Academy's extended all-time standings.
Senior Alec Schrank knocked more than 51 seconds off his time in the 5000-meter run to place fifth in the 17-runner seeded race – and debut on the program's top-25 standings (21st) – with a time of 14:06.82, while classmate Drew Lester improved his personal time by more than 16 seconds to finish third out of 19 runners in the unseeded section behind a mark of 14:24.37.
Junior Joseph Wittig closed out Thursday's Distance Carnival with his collegiate debut in the 10,000-meter run. Wittig, who had predominately competed in the 1500-meter distance prior to a 5000-meter race earlier this season, clocked a time of 31:00.96 to finish 16th in the final event of the night.
