Falcons Wrap up Action at Colorado State

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Air Force senior Addyson Smith continued her upgrade of the Academy Record Book in the throwing events this weekend (April 23-24), as a contingent of the Air Force track and field team wrapped up competition at the Jack Christiansen Invitational in Fort Collins.

Smith added more than four inches to her distance in the shot put this afternoon, as she posted a personal-best mark of 46'6" to improve her No. 6 placement on the program's all-time standings and finish within the top half of the nine-thrower field (fourth). Her improvement in the shot put came one day after she bettered her own No. 8 standing on the Academy's hammer throw list. In the only event of the meet contested on Friday, Smith recorded a throw of 169'2" – a one-foot personal improvement – to finish fourth in the 16-thrower field.

The women earned a pair of first-place finishes at Jack Christiansen Track on Saturday, as freshmen accounted for event titles in the 400-meter dash and javelin throw. Zoe Iwu clocked a time of 59.02 in her first collegiate race at the 400-meter distance to win the event by 0.28 seconds, while Alexxis Brown recorded a career-best distance of 125'1" to lead Air Force to two of the top-three finishes in the javelin throw (junior Kristin Kerrigan – 115'9", third).

Brown also accounted for a career-best distance of 16'7¾" in the long jump – a career improvement nearly five inches, while juniors Erika Willis and Frankie Porambo finished third and fifth, respectively, in the pole vault behind matching clearances of 11'9¾" (season-best matching for Willis).

Junior Jarod Pankau collected a pair of top-five marks on the men's side, finishing third in the discus throw (154'3") and fourth in the javelin throw (165'5"). Pankau was one of two Falcons to finish within the javelin's top-five, as freshman Teagun Glenn registered a throw of 172'4" to finish third out of nine throwers. The men also accounted for multiple top-five finishes in the pole vault, as junior Calvin Ciganik recorded a career-best clearance of 15'5¾" to finish second and freshman Caiden Macktinger placed fourth after clearing 15'0" – a mark just one inch off his career best.

In addition, newcomer John Eldridge finished third in the 100-meter dash (11.05), while fellow freshman Philip Hundl placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (career-best 14.93) and classmate John Colizzi finished fifth in the triple jump (career-best 47'8½").

Air Force heads to California next Saturday (May 1) for the West Coast Relays in Clovis.
