
Layne leads Falcons at Cowboy Classic

CHANDLER, Ariz. – Sophomore Isaac Layne led the Air Force golf team at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic, Tuesday, April 6, at the Whirlwind Golf Club, in Chandler, Ariz.
After an opening round 76, Layne came back with a one-under 71 in the second round and a 73 in the final round for a 54-hole score of 220. He was the top Falcon, placing 61st overall. Layne's 71 in the second round was his season best, as he birdied two of his final three holes.
Senior Kyle Spencer shot a one-under 71 on the final day and came in at 225 for the tournament. After a double-bogey on his second hole in the final round, he posted five birdies and played the final 16 holes in three-under. Junior Luke Trujillo shot 232 for the tournament while freshman Aaron Kuznik came in at 240 and junior Colter Baca shot 243.
Three Falcons competed as individuals with Jonathan Farmer shooting 227, Patrick Erwin at 245 and Max Heupel at 251.
Air Force placed 23rd with a 54-hole total of 917. The Falcons' best round of the tournament came on the final day with a 297. San Diego State, ranked 28th in the nation, won the tournament with an 831. TCU was second (837), Colorado was third (840), Loyola Marymount was fourth (844) and Stanford was fifth (845).
Air Force will compete in its final regular-season tournament at the BYU Cougar Classic, April 23-24, in Provo, Utah.
