Mitch Lipe Impacts Record Book at Colorado

BOULDER, Colo. – Air Force senior Mitch Lipe debuted on the Academy's all-time standings in the pole vault this afternoon (April 9), as a small contingent of field athletes opened competition at the Colorado Invitational in Boulder.

Lipe recorded a career-best, conference-leading clearance of 17'8½" – a personal improvement of nearly a foot – during a winning performance in the pole vault. That clearance, the ninth-best mark in Academy history, bettered the 10-vaulter field by nearly two feet and marked the third time in four weeks that a member of the Air Force pole vault team has claimed a title in the pole vault.

Sophomore Katie Van Havel also claimed a top-three finish on Friday, as she recorded a distance of 17'7" to finish third out of 11 competitors in the long jump.

The rest of the Air Force squad heads to Boulder tomorrow (April 10) for the final day of the Colorado Invitational. The remaining field events, as well as all of the running events, will begin at 10:00 a.m. (MT).
