Skage is the 23rd Falcon since 2002 to earn Academic All-District honors in track and field.
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – Air Force pole vaulter Greg Skage, a 2021 Academy graduate, was named to the Academic All-District VII Track/Field and Cross Country Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced this afternoon (July 15). Earning first-team distinction at the district level, Skage will be placed on the national ballot for Academic All-America honors.
Skage, who majored in management at the Academy, was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Space Force this past May. An All-American in the pole vault, Skage was ranked 11th indoors (17'9¾") and 29th outdoors (17'6½") in the NCAA during the 2021 season, while his indoor-best clearance of 17'9¾" is the eighth-highest mark in Academy history. A three-time academic all-conference selection and member of the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team, Skage claimed the Mountain West Outdoor title in his signature event during back-to-back championship meets, leading Air Force to 1-2-3 finishes in the pole vault both times (2019, 2021). A five-time MW Athlete of the Week selection, Skage qualified to the NCAA Championships during both the indoor and outdoor seasons.
To be nominated for CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, a student-athlete must have completed at least one full academic year at the institution, be a significant contributor and carry a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.30 or higher. The academic awards for District VII are voted on by CoSIDA members from NCAA Division I programs in Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma and Texas.
With the addition of Skage to the Academic All-District team, the Falcons' track and field program has seen 23 different athletes combine for 29 academic honors from CoSIDA since the program began in 2002 – and has had at least one selection to the Academic All-District VII Track/Field and Cross Country Team during 15 of the last 16 years.
