Air Force Fencing Joins MPSF

Air Force fencing will join the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) effective immediately for the 2021-22 academic year, announced today by the MPSF conference office. MPSF Fencing will feature Air Force, Stanford University, University of California San Diego, and the University of the Incarnate Word. Each of these four programs enter the MPSF after an historical season in the Western Fencing Conference (WFC), with all four advancing to the NCAA Championships and finishing off record-setting seasons.
"Our move to the MPSF is an important change for our fencing program," Air Force Director of Athletics Nathan Pine said. "The MPSF offers an opportunity for increased exposure for Air Force and important professional support from the MPSF staff for the sport. This will better support the ascension of our program as we build upon our recent successes. I'm excited about the future of Air Force fencing."
"We are very excited to join the MPSF," head coach Omar Elgeziry said. "This is an excellent move for us and a huge promotion for the sport, not just in the West region, but across the nation. We hope this will attract more colleges in the West to add fencing programs to athletics and eventually increase the region's competitiveness. I am very excited about this step and eager to see the progression of Air Force fencing in the MPSF."
The inaugural MPSF Fencing Individual and Team Championships are scheduled for March 13, 2022, hosted by UIW in San Antonio, Texas. The NCAA Regionals will be held the day prior on March 12, also hosted by UIW, with the top-four fencers in each of the three weapons for both genders advancing to the next day's MPSF Individual Semifinals. There will also be a single combined MPSF Team Championship, in which the four schools will compete in the semifinals followed by those winners battling for a conference title.
The news marks the first time in 11 years the conference has added a sport, when swimming and diving jumped on board for the 2010-11 season. Fencing is the 10th sport sponsored by the MPSF.
