Falcons Open Conference Play at New Mexico

Air Force will play in Albuquerque on Sept. 21, before hosting Fresno State on Sept. 25.
The Air Force volleyball team opens Mountain West action tomorrow (Sept. 21) night, when they face off against New Mexico in Albuquerque. It is the first of two conference contests for the Falcons, who will host Fresno State at noon on Saturday, Sept. 25.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
New Mexico, which went 9-2 during non-conference action, is coming off of a home-and-home weekend with Northern Arizona, where each team won on their home court. Fresno State, even at 4-4 on the year, will open its Mountain West season at New Mexico on Thursday night, before traveling up to the Academy.
HISTORY 101
Air Force split last season's meetings with both New Mexico and Fresno State, but have not faced these opponents on the road since 2019. The Falcons are 6-40 lifetime against New Mexico, but swept the Lobos in their last trip to Albuquerque. And although Fresno State holds a narrow 11-9 all-time advantage over Air Force, the Falcons hold a 9-7 lead as conference opponents.
RUSS NAMED MW FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Mac Russ was named the Mountain West Volleyball Freshman of the Week on Sept. 20, becoming the first Academy athlete to earn the league's newest weekly honor. The first-year Falcon helped Air Force to victories over Iowa and Incarnate Word during a perfect 2-0 weekend at the Mile High Invitational on Sept. 17-18, hitting .340 (15-4-32) in the two contests and averaging 1.14 blocks per set.
WELCOME BACK
Fans are invited back to Air Force Volleyball matches this fall, but current Defense Department and Air Force Academy rules require all individuals to wear a mask inside Academy facilities. All individuals who have not been fully vaccinated must wear masks outside on military installations.
WHAT'S ON DECK
Air Force heads out on the road next week for conference contests at UNLV (Sept. 30) and San Diego State (Oct. 2).
