Air Force Men’s Tennis Opens With 5-2 Setback at Montana State

Air Force men's tennis opened the 2022 Springs season with a 5-2 loss at Montana State Friday afternoon in Bozeman, Mont.
The Falcons went up 2-0 after winning the doubles point and the first singles match. Montana State rallied by taking the next five singles matches for the win.
Air Force picked up the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Seniors Robert Baylon and Jordan Azuma won at No. 1 over Matej Panik/Daan Van Dijk 6-3. Montana State took No. 2 doubles, as Jonathan Mascagni and Arjun Kersten fell to Nejc Sitar/Marcos Zelver 6-3. The Falcons were able to get the point as the No. 3 pair of Justin Waldman and Nick Vroman downed Brad Buckland/Jamieson Nathan 6-4.
In singles, Vroman opened with a win at No. 4 over Buckland 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 to put the Falcons up 2-0.
The Bobcats would rally back after, starting with a win at No. 3 as Waldman fell to Nathan 7-5, 6-0. The match would be tied up when Baylon fell at No. 1 to Panik 6-4, 7-6 (4). Montana State took the lead when Mascagni fell at No. 2 to Van Dijk 7-6 (6), 6-4.
The Bobcats clinched the dual with a win at No. 6, as Kyle Garner fell to Joaquin Espinoza 6-4, 6-4. Kersten then dropped his No. 5 match to Sitar 5-7, 6-4 (6-3).
Air Force will look to get its first win tomorrow, taking on Eastern Washington in a neutral-site match in Missoula, Mont. Action begins at noon.
