Air Force Opens Spring Play With 7-0 Win Over Montana State

Air Force women's tennis opened the 2022 Spring season in dominant fashion, taking down Montana State 7-0 in a neutral-site match in San Antonio, Texas, Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons took the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Alex Kuo and Hailey Stelse won at No. 2 by default over Felicia Jayasaputra and Maria Villarejo for the first win. Vivian Glozman and Karina Chao won at No. 1 over Mirte Van Baelen and Marta Garcia-Reboredo 6-2 to clinch the point.

The Falcons then swept all six singles matches.

Glozman won at No. 1 over Garcia-Reboredo 6-3, 5-7, 11-9. Sydney Fitch won at No. 2 over Mirte Van Baelen 6-4, 6-4. Karina Chao won at No. 3 over Jayasaputra 6-4, 6-4 for her first collegiate dual win.

At No. 4, Stelse won over JJ Chen 7-5, 6-4. Alexis Odom won at No. 5 over Villarejo 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 for her first collegiate dual win. Kuo won at No. 6 over Andrea Cuquerella by default.

"I was extremely pleased with everyone on the team from each position," head coach Kim Gidley said. "It was a complete team effort today for the team's first win of the season against a very competitive Montana State team. In every match, our players had to compete from the first point to the last point. When the matches got tight, I was extremely pleased with how well each individual stepped up to the challenge and stayed the course. Competing is about adapting to the situation and finding a way to win, even when you're down a match point like Vivian Glozman was . I am super excited to see what this team brings tomorrow."

Air Force returns to action tomorrow, against Incarnate Word. Action begins at 10 am CT.
