Air Force Fencing Opens Competition at October NAC

Air Force fencing opened the 2022-23 season at the October North American Cup (NAC), which ran Oct. 7-10 in Minneapolis, MN.

Air Force had three top 75 finishes, with two coming from freshmen. Freshman Omar Emara was the top finisher for the Falcons, taking 62nd in the Div. I men's epee. Junior Griffin Peter placed 66th in the Div. I men's foil and Melissa Kline finished 73rd in the Div. I women's foil.

Emara had 10 bout victories total, including a perfect 6-0 run through the preliminary round of pool competition. Peter tallied six total bout victories, also making into the finals bracket. Kline went 4-2 in pool competition to make the bracket round of competition.

Air Force also had a top-100 finish from freshman Mira Vestel in the Div. I women's saber.

In men's foil, Ned Maurer posted four bout victories and finished 127th and freshman Jack Griffith placed 137th in his collegiate debut.

In women's epee, junior Josie Ratzlaff made the bracket round and finished 111th. Freshman Ellie Kim placed 134th.

In men's saber freshman William Barber placed 171st.

The Falcons had five competitors in men's epee. Senior Matthew Han was 155th, sophomore George Gaspavorich IV was 190th, sophomore Nathan Yoon was 225th and sophomore Siddhant Padhye was 242nd.

Air Force returns to action Nov. 5-6, hosting the Western Invitational at the Academy.
