COLBY, Kan. – The Air Force cross country team swept the Trojan Invitational this morning (Oct. 15) in Colby, Kansas. Runner-up individual finishes from Stephanie Gregersen and Aidan Boyle highlighted a day that saw the women place five in the top 10 and the men account for five top-20 finishes.
With all five runners placing within the top 10, the women tallied 22 points to win the team title by a 25-point margin. Gregersen and sophomore Sydney Weaber led Air Force with top-three finishes in the 79-runner 5K race, as Gregersen finished second in 17:50.06 and Weaber took third in 17:57.50. Fellow sophomore Tiaree Towler added a sixth-place time of 18:27.58, while freshman Gina K Lee and junior Ava Gilliana rounded out the Falcons' lineup by finishing ninth (18:31.51) and 10th (18:40.12), respectively.
Air Force recorded another 2-3 finish in the men's race, as Boyle and freshman Max Sannes guided the men to five top-20 finishes and a team title. Boyle earned the runner-up spot in the 109-runner event following an 8K time of 24:07.63, while Sannes was close behind with a time of 24:10.40. Senior Niko Fraser joined the pair in the top 10, as he finished sixth after crossing the finish in 24:28.04, while junior Ryan Child and sophomore Jason Renze rounded out the scoring lineup by finishing 14th (24:49.17) and 19th (25:08.10), respectively. Junior Jett Knight also competed on Saturday, finishing 26th in 25:32.42.
"The meet at Colby allowed us to get a mid-season race for feedback as we determine our remaining roster spots for the conference championships," Air Force Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Ryan Cole said. "It was also a great opportunity to compete at sea-level and we had athletes for both genders racing well at the front of the fields. Anytime you line up and race, the team competes to win, so team victories on both sides were also a nice aspect about today."
The Falcons return to action next Friday (Oct. 21), when several runners compete at the UCCS Open in Colorado Springs.
