USAFA, Colo.- On the afternoon in which Air Force honored its 2023 senior class, it was a pair of freshmen that created a late game-winning goal, as the Falcons took down Wyoming 1-0.
"I'm really proud of the way we applied information and showed grit throughout the match," said head coach Laura Busby. "It's always a grind on Sunday afternoons and our warriors pulled off the win. Credit to two freshmen for combining to give us the game winner."
In the 73rd minute, Eleanor Musgrove took charge of the attack down the left side of the pitch. Musgrove's pass into the box deflected to Alexa Ramthun, who made a perfect through pass back to Musgrove. The Illinois native needed little space to square up a stellar left-footed shot into the back of the net.
The score marks the first collegiate goal for Musgrove, with Ranthum notching her first career assist.
The Falcons accounted for eight shots on goal in 18 total tries. Jordi Ives and Faith Lee led Air Force with three shot attempts, as the pair combined for three shots on goal. Jennifer McFadden pressed up the pitch from her defender position to manage two shots on goal as well.
Goalkeeper Sydney Davis was terrific yet again, stopping all six shots on goal she faced. Over the past two games, Davis has turned away all 15 shots on goal.
All five of Air Force's graduating seniors saw time on the pitch, with each providing high-class play to help the Falcons halt a four-match losing streak.
"I'm so grateful to our five seniors for their leadership and the legacy they are leaving on this team," said Busby. "We're not done yet. We have a big road weekend ahead of us and I'm confident that we can put ourselves in the playoff race if we continue to play like we did today."
The Falcons will hit the road for the final time this regular season when Air Force travels to the state of Nevada for a pair of matches. Next, the Falcons will take on the Wolfpack in Reno on Thursday, October 20. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 pm MT.
