10/2/2022 4:01:00 PM | Men's Soccer
Air Force put up a season-best three goals on the Trailblazers with strikes from Thaddaeus Dewing (7'), Federico Mion (66'), and Greg Hill (85'). Senior midfielder Jake Angeletti assisted Dewing and Mion in their goals for his first points of the season. The first strike marked Dewing's sixth this season for the second-most by any player in the WAC this season. Mion notched his first goal of the season in the second strike, second of his career. Hill's goal marked the first of his career.
The Falcon defense proved to be too much for Utah Tech as the Trailblazers were only able to fire off two shots per half with three coming on target all match. Senior goalie John Byszewski made three saves for his third shutout this season. In three meetings, the Trailblazers have yet to score against Air Force.
AF head coach Doug Hill put his depth on display with every suited man clocking time on the pitch, testament to the full team effort to secure the season-best outcome.
At the conclusion of the match, Air Force outshot Utah Tech 11-4 for the greatest shooting disparity by the Falcons this season. Angeletti led the team with two shots on the day and has taken the second-most shots on the team this season (13).
Air Force team captain London Aghedo anchored the defense with 90 minutes of action—the only Falcon to play every minute of the match.
In just one weekend, the Falcons went from eighth in the league to the top spot.
Next up, the Falcons finally return home to Cadet Soccer Stadium to host a pair of WAC matches over the weekend. On Friday (Oct. 7), Air Force hosts the previous WAC front-runners California Baptist at 6 p.m. On Sunday (Oct. 9), AF takes on Utah Valley at 1 p.m. Friday's match will serve as the conference opener for CBU.
