Air Force Falters At Utah State 34-27

Air Force football (4-2, 1-2 MW) fell 34-27 at Utah State (2-4, 1-1 MW) Saturday night at Maverik Stadium in Logan, Utah.

The Falcons were unable to maintain a 14-13 halftime lead, as the Aggies out-scored the Falcons 21-13 in the second half.

Senior running back Brad Roberts led the Falcons with 136 yards rushing on 29 carries as Air Force racked up 264 yards on the ground. Roberts reached 100 yards rushing for the 14th time in his career to tie the Air Force record for 100 yard games, joining Air Force hall of famer Beau Morgan. Senior wide receiver Amari Terry had a 40-yard touchdown reception.

The game was a back-and-forth affair all game with Utah State scoring the first touchdown in the first quarter to go ahead early. Air Force tied it up on a one-yard run by Roberts. Utah State went back ahead 10-7 on a 30-yard field goal by Connor Coles to close out the scoring in the first quarter.

Air Force went ahead 14-10 with seven minutes left in the second on a one-yard run by quarterback Haaziq Daniels. Coles kicked another 30-yard field goal for the Aggies before the half to make it 14-13 Air Force.

The Falcons went up 17-13 on a 40-yard field goal by Matt Dapore in the third quarter. Utah State then went ahead 20-17 on a 21-yard run by Calvin Tyler Jr. late in the third.

The see-saw affair continued as Daniels found Terry wide open down the sideline for a 40-yard strike to put Air Force back ahead 24-20 with 13:30 to play in the fourth quarter.

Utah State then re-took the lead on a 34-yard shovel pass to Terrl Vaughn from quarterback Cooper Legas with 10:15 to play. The Aggies extended the lead, following a costly Air Force fumble, with a 32-yard touchdown run by Legas with 7:00 to play.

The Falcons fought back with a 51-yard field goal by Dapore with 1:42 to make it a seven-point game. The ensuing onside kick was recovered by Utah State to seal the game.

Defensively senior linebacker TD Blackman recoreded a career-high 12 tackles and 3.0 tackles for loss. Sophomore Jamari Bellamy also had a career-high 10 tackles.

The Falcons return to action Saturday, Oct. 15, at UNLV. The game kicks at 7:30 pm PT and will be televised by CBSSN.
