
Falcons travel to Akron and Ohio State, Nov. 19-20

This Week: Air Force will face a pair of top-15 teams in back-to-back dual matches on the road this week. The ninth-ranked Falcons will face No. 10 Akron on Saturday, Nov. 19, at 8 am in Akron, Ohio. Air Force will then meet No. 12 Ohio State on Sunday, Nov. 20, at 8 am in Columbus, Ohio.
Last Season: Air Force beat Ohio State in a quad meet last season in Morgantown, W.V. as the Falcons shot a 4703. Air Force's last trip to the state of Ohio came in the 2019-20 season. That season, Air Force defeated Akron in Akron, but then fell to Ohio State in Columbus.
Recently: Air Force defeated both Army and Navy to win its ninth straight President's Trophy, Nov. 5, in Annapolis, Md. Air Force won the team title with a score of 5868. Navy was second (5849) and Army was third (5785). Air Force claimed the top three spots in air rifle as Peninah D'Souza, Scott Rockett and Jordan Williams all shot 595. Dante Aletto shot 593 while Lauren Hurley and Victoria Leppert each shot 590 and Morgan Kreb shot 588. In smallbore, Hurley was the top Falcon, placing second overall at 584. Kreb shot 583, followed by D'Souza (582), Rockett (577), Williams (574) and Leppert (573). D'Souza was the top shooter overall with an aggregate score of 1177. Hurley was third overall at 1174 and Rockett was fifth overall at 1172.
The next day, Air Force defeated Army, 4698-4666, in a dual meet in Annapolis, Md. Rockett was the top shooter in aggregate scoring with an 1183. Rockett won both the smallbore (587) and air rifle (596) competitions. Army's Anusha Pakkam was second in aggregate and then the Falcons took the next six spots. Sophomore Lauren Hurley was third in aggregate score with an 1174, shooting 583 in smallbore and 591 in air rifle. Junior Morgan Kreb shot 1172 (581 smallbore and 591 air rifle). Junior Dante Aletto shot 1169 aggregate (568 smallbore and 591 air rifle). Junior Peninah D'Souza came in at 1169, freshman Victoria Leppert shot 1164 and senior Jordan Williams shot 1161.
National Rankings: Junior Peninah D'Souza's 599 in air rifle (Oct. 2) is tied as the fourth best in the nation (three have shot 600). Rockett's 598 (Oct. 22) is tied as the 14th best. Air Force's air rifle team score of 2385 (Oct. 2) is the sixth best score in the nation this season.
On the Horizon: Following the duals at Akron and Ohio State, Air Force will have several competitors in the Winter Air Gun Championships, Dec. 9-11, at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. The next team competition will be against the University of Alaska, Jan. 21-22, at the Academy. The matches against the Nanooks will be the final tune-ups for the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships, Feb. 4-5, in Fairbanks, Alaska.
