With her second award, Harvey is the first Falcon in 29 years to claim regional AVCA recognition multiple times.
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Postseason recognition continued for Air Force junior Joi Harvey this morning (Dec. 6), as she received Pacific North All-Region Honorable Mention status from the American Volleyball Coaches Association – marking the second time in three seasons that the Goodyear, Ariz., native has been honored by the AVCA.
The only Falcon at the Division I level to earn all-region mention, Harvey is the first Air Force player at any level to earn multiple AVCA honors since Louella Lovely in 1992-93.
Harvey, who recently claimed her second selection to the Mountain West all-conference team, had another stellar year for Air Force. The Falcons' middle blocker was ranked among the conference leaders in blocks (1.23) and hitting (.380) for the season, while adding a team-high 2.66 kills-per-set average. Harvey, whose .380 hitting (317-78-629) was the best single-season outing ever for Air Force at the DI level, added 146 total blocks (31s-115a), which is the program's second-highest single-season DI tally.
Highlighted by a career-best 17-kill outing in the Falcons' victory over Fresno State, Harvey led Air Force in kills 18 times during the 30-match season, while also leading the team in blocks (20) and hitting (15) in at least half the contests. Harvey, who was named MW Defensive Player of the Week during the non-conference season, hit at least .400 in eight of the squad's final 10 contests, helping Air Force roll through the second half of the MW season with an impressive 7-3 ledger.
Air Force finished the regular season with a 15-15 record and a 7-11 mark in conference play. The 15 overall wins are the second-highest win total in Air Force's Division I history, while the seven Mountain West wins is tied for the program's most conference wins at the DI level.
