Falcons drop final game in Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C.- In spite of the Air Force pitching staff allowing just one earned run, the Falcons could only muster three hits in today's 2-0 loss to Richmond to wrap up the Swig & Swine Classic.
Ryan Stohr took the loss, but only saw an unearned run score in the top of 1st, his only blemish on the afternoon. The junior allowed one hit and a pair of walks while striking out six Spiders in five innings. Zach Argo was perfect in his two innings of relief, striking out two to retire all six batters he faced. Dylan Rogers was called upon in the 9th and gave the Falcons a scoreless frame. The freshman hasn't allowed a run in his first three collegiate innings.
Between the four Air Force pitchers used, the Falcons only surrendered two hits, both of which were singles. Meanwhile, Sam Kulasingam, Jay Thomason and Trayden Tamiya were the only Falcons to record hits, all singles.
Air Force's best scoring opportunity came in the bottom of the 7th, with Tamiya leading off the frame with his aforementioned base knock. Aerik Joe laid down a sac bunt to move Tamiya to second before Kulasingam pulled a base hit to put runners on the corners with one out. Paul Skenes sent what should have been a sacrifice fly into center field to tie the ballgame, though the diving grab resulted in Kulasingam being doubled off at first base after some confusion in the midst of the play.
The Spiders subsequently scored an insurance run in the next half inning, a two-out single to give Richmond a 2-0 lead.
Air Force was unable to come up with a late rally, as the last six batters were retired in order.
Next, the Falcons will travel to Kinston, N.C. to play the Naval Academy at the Freedom Classic, starting February 25. First-pitch is scheduled for 4 pm MT.
