Men’s Swim & Dive Opens WAC Championship Action Wednesday

WAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 2022 WAC Swimming and Diving Championships returns to Houston, Texas, February 23-26. Prelim action is slated to begin at 10:30 a.m. CT each day, while finals action will begin at roughly 6 p.m. CT on each day.
CRWC NATATORIUM
In only a short time, the University of Houston facility has hosted several prestigious events, including the Conference USA Championships from 2004-2013, the 2004, 2008 and 2013 NCAA Zone D Diving Meet, and the 2007 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Championships.
At 70 meters by 25 yards, the pool ranks among the longest in the state of Texas. It holds more than 1.3 million gallons of water, shallowing out to 4 feet and increasing to 17 feet at the deep end.
2022 PRE-CHAMPIONSHIP MEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING COACHES POLL
The UNLV Rebels are favorites to win their second consecutive championship after collecting five first-place votes and 25 points. Grand Canyon Lopes were picked second with one first-place vote and 18 points. Air Force and California Baptist are tied in third, both with 16 points. Wyoming placed fifth with 10 points and Seattle U round up the polls with five.

FALCONS AT THE WAC CHAMPIONSHIP
Last year as a team, the Falcons finished with 643 points to finish runner-up to the host Rebels of UNLV, who won the team title with 907 points. AF won seven events overall, while also setting two new school records and achieving eight new top-10 program times. The Falcons also had seven NCAA B cuts.
In 2020, the Falcons clinched their third Western Athletic Conference title at the CRWC Natatorium on the campus of the University of Houston. The Falcons finished with a new modern WAC record 864 points and finished 172 points ahead of the second-place team.
