Ryan Stohr made his second start of the season for Air Force, and was again extremely competitive on the mound. The junior exited in the 5th, going 4.1 innings while allowing just one earned run on three hits. Stohr added three strikeouts while surrendering a walk.
Duke Benge took the loss, but provided valuable innings in relief. Benge threw 4.1 innings out of the bullpen, allowing two unearned runs while striking out five.
Paul Skenes finished his day 2-4 with a pair of singles, as Sam Kulasingam, Gabriel Garcia, Chase Spencer and Jay Thomason each found themselves in the hit column with base hits.
Air Force saw Campbell take an early 1-0 lead after the 1st inning, as the Camels pushed across a run with a sacrifice fly. However, the Falcons immediately answered in the next half inning. With runners on the corners and one out, Trayden Tamiya sent a ground ball towards third base. Campbell's attempt at a double play was unsuccessful, as the throw from the second baseman skipped past first base. The play allowed Braydon Altorfer to score, who initially reached on an error to open the inning. Tamiya was thrown out at second base in his attempt to advance a base, ending the inning.
The 1-1 score held until the 5th, when the Falcons took their first lead of the day. After Spencer singled and Aerik Joe was plunked, Kulasingam dunked a two-out single into right field to score Spencer, putting Air Force up 2-1.
Benge firmly secured the Air Force advantage through his first three-plus inning in relief, retiring all 10 batters he faced upon entering the game. Still on in the 9th, Benge saw an error behind him result in a leadoff baserunner, though the junior induced a strikeout and a fielder's choice, giving Campbell a runner on second with two down.
After working the count 2-0, Pierson lined a slider over the left field fence to seal Air Force's Monday afternoon fate.
Next, the Falcons will make their home debut against conference rival Nevada, as the three-game series begins Friday, March 4. First-pitch is scheduled for 3 pm MT.
