Big innings keep Falcons down in Game Two loss

LAS VEGAS, Nev.- The Falcons surrendered at least one run in six of eight innings, including two six-run Rebel frames in Saturday's 17-10 loss.

Gabriel Garcia was 3-4 with 3 RBI, as the senior drove in two with a single in the 2nd and managed a sacrifice fly in the 8th. Jay Thomason was 2-5, going deep twice to produce his first two collegiate long balls.

Jake Greiving had two hits in five plate appearances, as his two-run home run in the 7th was his second of the season. Chase Spencer, making his first start since March 4, was 2-3 with a walk and run batted in. Spencer hit his first-career triple in the 8th, the freshman's second extra-base hit of the season.

Sam Kulasingam knocked a RBI single in the 1st, as he now has at least one hit in 14 of 17 games. Trayden Tamiya's 9th inning solo home run was his second dinger in three games.

UNLV tagged Air Force pitching for 17 hits, with starter Rob Martin allowing 11 in his first loss of 2022. He lasted 3.1 innings, surrendering nine runs (six earned), one walk, and two strikeouts.

Just as in Game One, Air Force was the first to hit the scoreboard, as Kulasingam drove home Garcia, who doubled to start the game. However, UNLV answered with two in the bottom half of the inning to take a 2-1 lead.

Garcia's two-run single in the 2nd again put Air Force back on top at 3-2. The Falcons advantage held until the 3rd, as a Rebel RBI double evened the score at 3-3.

UNLV then exploded for six runs in the 4th, as the Rebels totaled six hits as well as a home run as part of the offensive outburst.

Thomason's first-home run of the season in the 6th cut the deficit to 9-4, though the Rebels added six more runs in the bottom half of the inning.

Air Force did outscore UNLV 6-2 over the final three innings, though the deficit was too steep to climb.

The Falcons conclude their series in Las Vegas tomorrow, as Game Three is scheduled to start at 1 pm MT on Sunday, March 20.
