Air Force drops final game at UNLV 8-5

LAS VEGAS, Nev.- For the second time in two games, Jay Thomason went deep twice, though his power bat was not enough to avoid the three-game sweep in today's 8-5 loss.
Thomason, who homered twice on Saturday, drove in four of Air Force's five runs, as the sophomore was 3-4 with two more dingers this afternoon. His three-run home run in the 2nd gave Air Force an initial 3-1 lead.
His four home runs over the last two games are the first four of his collegiate career.
Braydon Altorfer returned to the Falcons lineup after not playing on Saturday and finished the day 2-4 with two runs scored. Jason Booker was 1-2, his lone hit being a 4th inning RBI base hit. The freshman also stole a base and drew a walk in his three plate appearances.
Seungmin Shim made his fourth start of 2022, and was the losing pitcher after allowing six runs (three earned) in 2.1 innings. Shim struck out three and walked two over 14 batters. A two-out bases-loaded infield single and subsequent throwing error led to an inflated four-run inning for the lefty. Shim was pulled in the 3rd after surrendering a one-out solo home run.
After Shim, Jake Sansing gave the Falcons three trustworthy innings out of the bullpen. The junior's only blemish was a solo home run into his third inning of work.
Duke Benge followed Sansing, retiring the two batters he faced. Zach Argo worked around four baserunners in the 8th to post a zero.
Sunday marks the sixth-consecutive loss for the Falcons.
Air Force will look to turn the tide when the Falcons travel to Kansas State for a midweek two-game series. Game One is scheduled to begin at 5:00 pm MT on Tuesday, March 22.
