Air Force women's tennis opened Mountain West play in dominant fashion, winning 4-0 at New Mexico (9-4, 0-1 MW) Friday afternoon at the Linda Estes Tennis Complex on the University of New Mexico campus. The win lifted the Falcons to 12-3, 1-0 MW on the season.
The Falcons won the doubles point and then swept the Lobos 3-0 in singles for its first win in Albuquerque since 2018.
In doubles, Vivian Glozman and Karina Chao won at No.1 over Chen/Sodre 6-2. Alex Kuo and Hailey Stelse won at No. 3 over Huang/Toriumi 6-1.
In singles, Glozman defeated Yue Lin Chen in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1. Chao then won at No. 4 over Myu Kageyama 7-5, 6-3. Stelse clinched the match with a win at No. 5 over Hsiang-Wen Huang 7-5, 6-3.
"Anytime you have a conference win, it's a good day," head coach Kim Gidley said. "When you have a conference win on the road, it's even better. I was really proud of how this team responded to conference play. We divide our season up in three parts, and this is AirPower April because it is conference play. New Mexico has only lost the doubles point once this season, so they have strong doubles. To win at No. 1 and 3 so quickly shows how strong our doubles is too. In singles, the team competed at every position in relentless fashion. It will be exciting to be back in action tomorrow.
Air Force returns to action tomorrow Saturday, March 26 against Nevada in Albuquerque.
