Air Force Cruises to 13-4 win at Detroit Mercy

BIRMINGHAM, Mich. – Air Force took it to Detroit Mercy in a Saturday afternoon ASUN road contest at Seaholm High School, downing the Titans 13-4 to improve to 6-5 on the season with a 1-1 mark in the league. Detroit Mercy, now on a three-game losing streak, drops to 1-7 overall.
Falcon attack men Brandon Dodd and Kyle Griffith led the scoring charge in a big way, putting up five and four goals, respectfully. Dodd's 20 shots taken, 15 coming on goal, is a career-high mark while also setting the standard for most shots by a Falcon this season. Dodd dished out two assists to pair with his five goals, marking his seventh hat trick of the 2022 campaign and third-straight in the last three games. Griffith, Air Force's leading freshman scorer, notched his second hat trick this season with his career-high scoring performance.
Freshman Alexander Stepney put up a career-high two goals on three shots. Teammates Gavin Peene and Chase Douglas rounded out the scoring effort for the Falcons with a goal apiece. Senior midfielder Brenden Crouse facilitated two goals for his 11th and 12th assists this season. Aidan Tolen and Robbie Lionetti dished assists to Stepney and Dodd, respectfully. Air Force put up a season high 54 shots on the game and went .500 on extra man opportunities (2-4).
Air Force's team captain and linchpin defender Quentin Carlile notched three caused turnovers for up his total to 25 on the season. Senior teammate Caden Wolfson disrupted the offense with a pair of CTs to his credit. The Falcons defense held the Titans to four goals, marking the least number of goals by an AF opponent this season.
Falcon senior Brian Michael got back to his winning ways at the face off X, winning 10 of 18 attempts and collecting five ground balls. Teammate Braden Gaab took three attempts on the afternoon, winning all of them and collecting three ground balls.
Junior goalie Jason Rose made 11 saves in cage in his sixth win this season, his 73.3 save-percentage was a season best. Teammate Quinn Richards hopped in goal four the final four minutes, holding the Titans scoreless.
Air Force returns home to host ASUN opponent Cleveland State, Saturday, April 16. The Falcons and Vikings, who are 2-2 on the overall series, are slated for a noon face off in their first meeting as league foes.
