Jake Greiving finished 1-2 with a game-high 3 RBI, as the sophomore clubbed his 8th home run of the spring in the 7th. Greiving also brought home a run with a sac fly in the 5th.
Jay Thomason slugged his 14th home run of the season in the 6th, his first long ball since April 20. Paul Skenes finished 2-5 with a RBI double in the 1st, while Sam Kulasingam reached base three times in six plate appearances.
Dylan Rogers lasted a career-high 7.1 IP, allowing just four runs on four hits with a career-best seven strikeouts and two walks. The freshman didn't factor into the decision.
Zach Argo followed Rogers, allowing the tying run to cross in the 9th. Argo pitched 1.2 innings, surrendering two runs on three hits with a strikeout and two walks. Rob Martin was credited with the loss, allowing one run (none earned) on three hits to go with a walk and a strikeout.
Contrary to the two prior games in the series, Air Force was the side to strike first. Gabe Garcia opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the opening inning and was eventually followed by Skenes who drove home Blake Covin with a run-scoring double. The Falcons led 2-0 after their first turn at-bat.
The Aztecs found early runs as well, plating two in their half of the 1st before taking the lead in the 4th to go up 3-2.
However, a Greiving sac fly in the 5th tied the score. Thomason's home run in the 6th gave the Falcons a 4-3 lead, while Greiving's two-run home run in the 7th padded the Falcons advantage to 6-3.
Though, San Diego State would go on to score the game's next four runs. The Aztecs added a run in the 8th before producing two runs in the 9th to send the game to extra-innings.
In the 12th, the Aztecs opened the inning with a double and a walk. Both runners advanced following a passed ball before the winning run crossed the plate after a wild pitch.
With the loss, Air Force (23-25, 11-13)Â now sits a game behind Fresno State for the final seed of the Mountain West Conference Tournament.
Next, the Falcons will settle in for the final home series of the spring, hosting San Jose State starting Friday, May 13.Â
