Graduating with a 3.96 GPA, Geither is the program's 15th athlete to earn All-America honors.
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – Air Force sprinter Sean Geither, a 2022 Academy graduate, was named an Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) this morning (June 22). It is the first such honor for Geither, who claimed second-team distinction on the 2022 Academic All-American Division I Track/Field and Cross Country Team.
Geither, Air Force's Scholar-Athlete of the Year, was ranked 12th in the Academy's Class of 2022 after completing his academic career with a 3.96 GPA in aeronautical engineering – and holding a perfect 4.00 mark for the spring (in-season) semester. A member of two Mountain West champion outdoor relays (4x400 in 2021, 4x100 in 2022), Geither is listed among the program's Top 25 in several sprint events, including a No. 11 all-time mark of 21.31 in the outdoor 200-meter dash.
Fifteen Falcons have been selected as Academic All-Americans a total of 19 times, as Geither joined Mary Manning (1984-1985), Chris Nelson (1991-1992), Nick Wilson (2006), Kenny Grosselin (2008), Brittany Morreale (2010), Matthew Bell (2013), Jeremy Drenckhahn (2013), Rebecca Esselstein (2013-2014-2015), Josh Nielsen (2014), Taylor Smith (2016), Katie Burnham (2018), Lindsey Blanks (2020), Mitch Lipe (2020) and Greg Skage (2021) on the prestigious list.
To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration this year, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution, compete in at least 50-percent of the team's competition, be nominated by his/her sports information director and earn first-team status at the District level.
