Air Force's Regional run ends with 10-1 loss to Texas

AUSTIN, Texas- Standing as the final four-seed remaining in the NCAA Regionals, Air Force's 2022 season came to a close on Sunday, as the Falcons were defeated 10-1 by the Longhorns, advancing Texas into the Super Regional round.

Sam Kulasingam and Gabriel Garcia each had a pair of hits, with Kulasingam recording a double, one of the Falcons two extra-base hits on the night.

The other came from Braydon Altorfer, who slugged his 13th home run of the season in his final collegiate plate appearance to produce the Falcons lone run of the ballgame.

The Falcons managed just six hits, striking out 12 times in 32 plate appearances.

Texas produced five runs in the 1st inning, creating an obstacle too tall to climb for the Falcons. The leading slugger in Division I, Ivan Melendez, connected on his 30th home run of the season to start the scoring, a two-run shot to give the Longhorns a 2-0 lead.

Later in the inning, a passed ball and a two-run double saw Texas extend its advantage to 5-0 before the Falcons had a turn to bat..

Air Force saw Dylan Campbell hit a pair of solo home runs in the 4th and 8th, as the Longhorns created at least one run in six of their nine trips to the plate.

Seven of the eight graduated lieutenants, those being Braydon Altorfer, Zach Argo, Stevan Fairburn Jr., Gabriel Garcia, Rob Martin, Nathan Price, and Cayden Zimmerman, all same game action in Sunday's season finale. The other, CJ Dornak, was the winning pitcher in the earlier game of the day to allow Air Force a position in Sunday's Regional Final, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings.

The Falcons 32 wins this season stands as the second-most ever by Air Force, coming one win shy of tying the 1979 record of 33 wins in a single season. Air Force's 32 victories in 2022 is the program's highest win total since joining the Mountain West in 2000.
