Air Force Heads to Cowboy Jamboree

The Falcons will join numerous nationally-ranked teams at the Cowboys' annual meet.
The Air Force cross country team, which includes the 11th-ranked men's squad, will travel to Stillwater, Okla., this weekend for the annual Cowboy Jamboree on Saturday, Sept. 24.
MEET INFORMATION
The Cowboy Jamboree – a meet that dates back to 1937 – will take place at the Greiner Family OSU Cross Country Course in Stillwater on Saturday, Sept. 24. Due to expected high temperatures on Saturday, the start time has been adjusted and the Invitational and College races will be combined. The women's 6K race will kick off the meet at 7:45 a.m., while the men's 8K will follow at 8:30 a.m. (CT).

The collegiate field scheduled to include men's and women's teams from Air Force (#11 men), BYU (#4 men, #7 women), Carl Albert State, Colorado (#5 men, #3 women), El Paso CC, Hardin-Simmons, Harvard (#15 men, #20 women), Kentucky, Middle Tennessee State, North Texas, Northern Arizona (#1 men, #22 women), Oklahoma Christian, Oklahoma State (#2 men, #3 women), Ole Miss (#24 men, #17 women), Redlands CC, Southern Nazarene, Stanford (#3 men, #5 women), Syracuse (#20 men), Tulsa (#6 men), Utah Valley (#27 women), and Washington (#8 men, #6 women), as well as men's teams from Furman (#23), Gonzaga (#16), Princeton (#21), Texas (#29), Texas Southern and Wake Forest (#9), and women's teams from Arkansas (), Michigan (#12) and Toledo.
HISTORY 101
The Falcons, who won the men's team title in 1959, last raced at the Cowboy Jamboree in 2002, when Ben Payne (17th) and Elissa Ballas (11th) paced their respective teams to fourth-place finishes. While it will be the first Jamboree for the current squad, several members of the men's team completed the course's 10K circuit at the 2020 NCAA Cross Country Championships.
MEN REMAIN AT NO. 11 IN NATIONAL RANKINGS
The men remained at No. 11 in the Sept. 20 edition of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division I National Coaches Poll. The men tallied 202 points to earn that ranking – a placement that matched their highest regular season ranking since 2018.
GOING STRONG
The #AFXC men have been mentioned in the national conversation (either as a ranked team or one that is receiving votes) for 41-straight weeks – a program-best streak that dates back to the opening poll of the 2017 season.
TRIO OF FALCONS EARN WEEKLY MW HONORS
Air Force captured the largest haul of weekly conference awards in program history on Sept. 20 – as Ryan Child was named the MW Men's Runner of the Week, Max Sannes was named the MW Men's Freshman of the Week, and Jadyn Heil was named the MW Women's Freshman of the Week following strong performances at the Woody Greeno/Jay Dirksen Invitational.
THE NEXT COURSE
The Falcons return to action on Friday, Oct. 14, when they travel to Madison, Wis., for the prestigious Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course.
