
No. 8 Air Force hosts No. 2 Alaska, Jan. 21-22

This Week: Air Force, ranked eighth in the nation, will host No. 2 Alaska, for a pair of dual meets, Saturday, Jan.21, and Sunday, Jan. 22, at the Cadet Rifle Range in the Cadet Gymnasium. Saturday's meet starts at 9 am MT while Sunday's will start at 8 am MT.
Last Season vs. the Nanooks: Air Force dropped a pair of meets (4749-4714 and 4747-4707) to Alaska in Fairbanks. Air Force's last win over Alaska came on Nov. 24, 2019 with a 4679-4644 victory at the Academy.
The Streak: Air Force is on a seven-match winning streak. The last team competition came on Nov. 20 in Columbus, Ohio, when the Falcons (4707) defeated Navy (4684) and Ohio State (4682). During the streak, the Falcons have defeated Navy three times, Army twice, Akron and Ohio State. Air Force's last team competition was Nov. 20 at Ohio State.
Recently: Peninah D'Souza and sophomore Scott Rockett both earned medals at the USA Winter Air Gun Championships, Dec. 9-11, at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. The USA Winter Air Gun serves as a national championship and also gives athletes an opportunity to earn slots on the U.S. Team based on their three-day results. D'Souza earned a silver medal in both the open division and junior division. With her scores, D'Souza is on the air rifle national team. Rockett won the gold medal in the junior division and earned a bronze in the open division. Junior Dante Aletto and sophomore Lauren Hurley both qualified for the final in the air rifle competition.
National Rankings: Sophomore Lauren Hurley's perfect score of 600 in air rifle against Ohio State (Nov. 20) is one of just four perfect scores in the nation. Junior Peninah D'Souza's 599 in air rifle (Oct. 2) is tied as the fifth best in the nation. Air Force's air rifle team score of 2385 (Oct. 2) is the 12th best score in the nation this season.
On the Horizon: Following the duals against Alaska, Air Force will travel to The Citadel for a dual meet Jan. 28, in Charleston, S.C.
