Air Force Opens Spring With 4-3 Win Over Rice

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force men's tennis opened the Spring season with a 4-3 win over Rice (1-3), Friday night at the USAFA Indoor Tennis Courts.

After allowing Rice to take the doubles point, Air Force went 3-1 to start singles play to rally to the win.

The Falcons opened with setbacks at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. The duo of Justin Waldman and Nick Vroman fell at No. 1 to Heap/Navarro 6-2. Jonathan Mascagni and Arjun Kersten fell at No. 2 to Barnett/Grear 6-3.

Air Force fell behind 2-0 after dropping the first singles match at No. 4 as Mascagni fell to Sendogan 6-3, 6-2.

The Falcons then won the next three matches to take control. The rally started with Vroman winning at No. 1 over Trinity Grear 6-4, 6-3. Arjun Kersten won at No. 2 over Dylan Heap 6-4, 7-5 to tie the match up.

Air Force took the lead with a win at No. 3 as Waldman defeated Santiago Navarro 7-5, 6-4. The Falcons clinched with a win at No. 4 as Phillip Deaton won over West Barnett 6-4, 6-2. Rice capped the night with a win at No. 6 as Kabeer Kapasi defeated Jack Brown 6-2, 6-4.

Air Force returns to action Friday, Jan. 27, hosting Montana. The match begins at 5 pm MT.
