Air Force Defeats Montana, 4-3

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force men's tennis defeated Montana 4-3 Friday night at the USAFA Indoor Tennis Courts. The win lifted the Falcons to 2-0 on the season.

Air Force split the singles competition, with the difference being the doubles point won.

The Falcons opened by winning at No. 2 and 3 doubles for the point. After Air Force dropped the first doubles match at No. 1, Kyle Garner and Phillip Deaton won at No. 3 over Perez/Bittner 7-5. The Falcons clinched the point with a win at No. 2 as Jonathan Mascagni and Arjun Kersten defeated Stoeger/Guillermon 7-6 (7-4).

In singles, the Falcons went up 2-0 as Mascagni won at No. 4 in straight sets over Sam Baldwin 6-3, 7-6 (7-4). Montana would tie it up with wins at No. 3 and No. 1.

Air Force went back up 3-2 as Kersten won at No. 2 over Tom Bittner in three sets, 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4. Freshman Phillip Deaton clinched for the Falcons for the second-straight math, winning at No. 5 over Fernando Perez in straight sets 6-3, 6-3.

Air Force returns to action Saturday, Jan. 28, hosting ETSU. The match begins at 5 pm MT.
