Falcon Wrestling Takes the Fight to the F&M Lehman Open

Alumni Sports and Fitness Center – Lancaster, PA
The Air Force wrestling team is set to compete in the 10th Annual David H. Lehman '68 F&M Open, this Friday, inside the Alumni Sports and Fitness Center. A total of 49 different Division I teams have competed at this open tournament since its inception. This year's tournament once again will see teams from all over the country converge on Lancaster as 32 colleges and universities (30 DI) have entrants in the 2023 Open.
With another talented field, national champions, All-Americans, and national qualifiers are sprinkled throughout the brackets as several other wrestlers will be looking to make a name for themselves on the national scene.

WHO TO WATCH

The Falcons open the dual slate for the first time in 2023 as they host a pair of squads in double-header action on Friday, January 13, at Clune Arena. Air Force will host No. 24 Cal Poly at 6 p.m., and then follow up with Big 12 action against No. 6 Missouri immediately after at 7:30 p.m. Fans can follow along on FloWrestling.
WRAPPING UP 2022
In their last action of 2022, Falcon wrestling outscored Wyoming, 25-11, knocking down the Pokes for the first time since 2008, in Clune Arena. Air Force, now 2-0 in dual action, swept the final five bouts of the meet and posted bonus point wins in two weight classes.
At the CKLV, Air Force junior heavyweight Wyatt Hendrickson battled to a fourth-place finish. The Falcons put up 34 team points to finish 15th in the field of 34 teams. Hendrickson will not be making an appearance at the Lehman Open.
IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
The Falcons have four wrestlers with numbers in front of their names across five ranking publications. Wyatt Hendrickson is the top Falcon with a No. 6 mark from The Open Mat, and No. 7 rankings by Flo and Intermat. Cody Phippen checks in at No. 19 on College Wrestling Report, No. 20 on Flo, and No. 21 on Intermat. Phippen will not be competing at the Lehman Open. Sam Wolf, who has missed several weeks with injury, remains at No. 23 in Flo and Intermat. Freshman standout Tucker Owens checks in at No. 25 on Wrestle Stat.
As a squad, the Falcons rank No. 27 on Intermat and No. 30 on FloWrestling.
ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
While competing at the highest levels on the mat, the Falcons are also making standout marks in the books as well. Of all wrestlers on the team, 21-of-40 guys had a semester GPA over 3.0— 38-of-40 wrestlers carry a 3.0 or better cumulative Military Performance Average (MPA).
