The Cowgirls are coming off a pair of midweek home victories, as they defeated Colorado State in four and swept San Jose State for their first MW wins of the season. Wyoming, led by first-year head coach Kaylee Prigge, are ranked second in the conference in blocking (2.68 bps) and fifth in opponent hitting (.210). Individually, the Cowgirls have two ranked in the MW top-10 for blocks – Sarah Holcomb (1.36 bps, third), Tierney Barlow (1.12 bps, eighth), while Rylee Schulz is ranked ninth in the conference in kills (3.16 kps).
BY THE NUMBERS
Colorado State holds a 57-2 advantage over the Falcons in the all-time series, with both wins coming away from the Academy. Wyoming is 45-8 all-time against Air Force, although the Falcons have won two of the last three meetings with the Cowgirls. Overall, five of the Falcons' eight wins over Wyoming have come at the Academy.
BUSY WEEKEND FOR AIR FORCE & WYOMING FANS
The Falcons' volleyball contest is the start of a volleyball/football doubleheader between Air Force and Wyoming on Saturday, Oct. 14 – and part of a busy weekend between the two conference foes that also includes a Thursday night women's soccer game in Laramie.
AIR FORCE IN THE CONFERENCE
Joi Harvey leads the Mountain West in hitting (.465) after three weeks of conference play, while also holding top-10 rankings in kills (3.00 kps, 10th) and points (3.67 pps, ninth). Air Force, which is ranked third in team hitting (.253), boasts two of the four most accurate attackers in the league, with Mac Russ ranked fourth with a .348 average. A full list of Falcons in the conference rankings can be found on Page 3 of this release.
ROAD WARRIORS
The Falcons captured their fifth true road win of the year with the comeback win over San Diego State on Oct. 5 – a victory that set a new Air Force Division I record for the most true road wins in a season. Prior to that win at Peterson Gym, Air Force had not won more than four true road contests in a year – a tally that last occurred in 2003. In addition, with the four neutral site victories Air Force accumulated during the non-conference season, the nine wins away from the Academy are also the most for Air Force at the Division I level.
FALCONS AFTER SIX
The 4-2 record in conference play is the best six-match start for Air Force at the Division I level.
WHAT'S ON DECK
Air Force closes out the first half of the Mountain West season with a split schedule next week. Facing their two single-match opponents of the year, the Falcons travel to Albuquerque for a road match at New Mexico on Tuesday, Oct. 17, before hosting San Jose State at the Academy on Saturday, Oct. 21.
