Air Force got off to a strong start behind a penalty kick from Thaddaeus Dewing who put the Falcons on the board in the 26th minute, marking the conference Preseason offensive Player of the Year's first goal this season.
Utah Tech's Jerod Allen responded with an equalizer in the 33rd minute with an assist from Nathan Martinez for his first goal this season and the Trailblazer's first-ever goal against Air Force. The teams were tied at one at the halftime break.
The Trailblazers took their first lead of the match in the 57th minute with a goal from AJ Ciampini via touches from Damian Arguello and Abigay Gomez. A short 20 seconds later (58'), Dewing chipped an assist to AF freshman Aidan Grubbs who finished for a tying goal. The goal marked Grubbs second this season—the most by a freshman since the 2019-2020 campaign.
With the match edging toward a tie, the Trailblazers' Angel Saldana scored the game-winner in the 84th minute via Ciampini's assist.
At the conclusion of the match UTU outshot Air Force, 17-8, led by Abigay Gomez's six shots. Dewing led the Falcons with three attempts while senior team captain Luke Hill and Grubbs followed up with two apiece.
Next up, the Falcons return home for the first of a three-match home stint to wrap up the regular season. The Falcons host UTRGV on Thursday (Oct. 19). Action at Cadet Soccer Stadium is slated for 4 p.m. MT. The match against the Vaqueros will be AF's only match of the week.
